Pride And Prejudice Jane Austen English Literature Essay Essays
Pride And Prejudice Jane Austen English Literature Essay Essays Pride And Prejudice Jane Austen English Literature Essay Paper Pride And Prejudice Jane Austen English Literature Essay Paper and her oldest sister Jane, because of the manner she see merely the good in others. Elizabeth get in love with Mr. Darcy, a handsome, tall, and intelligent, but instead antisocial individual, he is a good known work forces who belongs to a high societal category. The lone thing that she does nt wish about him is his inordinate pride, and that is why their relationship gets into many problems doing each character to see the other one differences during the novel and seeking to work out them so they can eventually remain together. Jane Bennet is the oldest of the Bennet sister, she is non the most cagey but she is considered the most beautiful and reasonable of all the sisters that is why she is favored by Mrs. Bennet ( her female parent, who is frivolous and her chief aspiration in life is to get married her girls off good ) .Jane gets in love with Mr. Bingley, a rich adult male who late moved to Hertfordshire, Mrs. Bennet accept the relationship merely because he is a work forces with a batch of money, but Mr. Darcy who is Mr. Bingley best friend, ever seek to protect feels their love is non equal and he does nt desire to see Bingley acquire hurt that is why he seek to divide them, but thanks to Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy realises his error and brings back Bingley who so marries Jane. The secret plan of the narrative occurs on how the relationship of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy changes, it is finally distinct when Darcy overcomes his pride, and Elizabeth overcomes her bias and they both overcome their differences and judgements to fall in love with each other. The ambiance of the novel is really interesting because it is non a typical romantic narrative, and the people really had a different manner to act on that clip. Like the manner the adult females s in that period where really interested on the money, so they can hold a good life style. Another point is that it is non so deadening because the relationship between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy has a really interesting alteration, because of the pride of him and the bias of she, destiny makes a struggle with the features of each one, and merely by work outing their jobs, they can eventually acquire in love. At the beginning of the narrative is when Mr. Bingley moves to England and met the Bennet s household, there is where he talks for the first clip with Jane Bennet, and experience a connexion between them, evidently Mrs. Bennet is interested in that relationships, because she wants a good life style for her girls and that is why she make everything to fall in them, but she does nt believe in the sentiment of Mr. Bingley s best friend named Mr. Darcy who ever take attention about him. Mr. Darcy feel and think that the relation between Jane Bennet and Mr. Bingley is non love, and that she is merely interested in the money she will hold by get marrieding with him. And that is why he started to judge the Bennet household with a bad construct, and seek to divide Mr. Bingley of Jane Bennet, even though they are truly in both, and she is non interested in his money. During the development Mr. Darcy, ever do a bad justice of this household, but when he met Elizabeth, he started to alter his head, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are forced to be in each other s company, in different state of affairss, and there is where he get down to acquire in love with her. But Elizabeth does non experience the same at him, that is because he is seeking to divide her sisters love of her, and she start to experience hatred to him, at last she changes Mr. Darcy s head and convince him that her sister Jane will be a good married woman for Mr. Bingley, and that she is non like her female parent, that means that she is non interested in his money, because he genuinely love him. Mr. Darcy changes his head and accepts the relation between his friend and Jane Bennet, so they eventually stay together. And between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, they eventually solve the jobs and get the better of their differences and judgements, so Elizabeth sentiment of him alteration and they can eventually fall in love with each other. I think the strengths of this book is that possibly it is non a normal romantic narrative like other novels are based on, and the failings, could be that possibly non everyone is interested on reading romantic novels. This book truly keep my interested, because of the manner it is explained, and the state of affairss that happen during the narrative, I can non state it impact me, because I do non truly experience the narrative moved me, it can be because, the struggle in the novel, is non truly possible to go on to me, and the manner the people behave on that clip is non the manner the people behave now a yearss. My sentiment of this book, is that it is a truly interesting romantic novel, that can explicate how times have changed, and how people behaved many old ages ago, at the same clip that it speak about the differences that exist between the pride and bias of two people, that by work outing their differences they both get in love. I do urge this novel for people that judge people before cognizing them, and the 1s that have a batch of pride!

WWII, Holocaust, Cold War, and Postmodernism Coursework - 1
WWII, Holocaust, Cold War, and Postmodernism - Coursework Example The paper "WWII, Holocaust, Cold War, and Postmodernism" analyzes the holocaust, the cold war, and world war II and their connection with postmodernism. The United States did not get on board with World War II unless it absolutely had to fight back against one of the Axis Powers, which was Japan. During the Holocaust, this atrocity might not have occurred if more people would have defended the rights of human beings to live and coexist peacefully with people from other religious backgrounds, faith traditions, ethnicities, and ability levels. There were numerous people that were murdered due to the fact that the Germans considered them ââ¬Å"undesirable.â⬠The groups included in the undesirable category cut through a wide swath of people, not just limited to the Jewish peopleââ¬âbut also extended to the Gypsies (also known as the Roma or Romani), disabled individuals, individuals with birth defects, homosexuals, Communists, artists, poets, musicians, writers, and anyone else who was considered ââ¬Å"subhuman.â⬠It is very common knowledge that the Germans were ruthless in their treatment of the concentration camp prisoners, for the most part. Elie Wiesel, in his book Night, describes how the blue smoke of the children rose up from the crematories. He describes how he will never forget that night, not as long as he lived, and basically until the death of God himself he promised never to forget. In a way, his writing symbolized a kind of spiritual death as one sees his hopes and dreams turned to dust.

Corporate Fundraising - Essay Example The Relevant Laws Green Coffee Company Limited a Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance certified company, thus it has earned a significant extent of goodwill over the years (Rainforest Alliance 2013). In this regard, issue offer (sec 706), sale offer (sec 707) of securities need to be disclosed. In case of right issue, disclosures are not necessary (sec 708AA), apart from the disclosures on sale offer under section 707, there are certain sale offer which do not need discloses (sec 708A). Corporations Act 2001 prohibits the organisation which raises funds to execute its endeavour without the proper disclosures of the documents (Section 727) (AustLII n.d.). If an organisation offers 20 issues in 1 year then the publicity and the advertisements for issues will be restricted fir them. Prospectus issued by the company, in this case Green Coffee Company Ltd, will be a very important document relating to investments. Prospectus protects the investors by educating them regarding the investment proposals. Australian Accounting Standards Board continuously closely observes the work of the capital markets and makes amendments on the rules prevailing in the countries whenever necessary. On the other hand, Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) works as a legislator and regulator. With regard to fundraising, Green Coffee Company Ltd needs to disclose various kinds of documents (sec 705). In case of full disclosure made in prospectus, a company needs to include the terms like content (sec710, sec 711, sec 713), procedure (sec 717), liability (sec 728 and sec 729) and defences (sec 731, sec 733); sort form of prospectus only needs to disclose its content (sec 712) (Thomson Playford 2006). Certain other kind of documents includes profile statement (sec 721) and offer information statement (sec 709). Details are given in the website of Commonwealth Consolidated Acts namely ââ¬Å"www.austlii.edu.auâ⬠. Look closely at the requiem Essay Example for Free
Look closely at the requiem Essay The interaction between Biff and Happy in the scene is very representative of how their characters have changed over the play. Happy is angry with Willy. With the atmosphere being in such melancholy, Miller makes Happy angry so the audience can see his fallibility as a character. He has followed the same dream and Willys death and subsequent failure threatens his identity. This is because Miller uses Happy to represent the wrong way of going about life and, juxtaposed with Biff, you can see how Miller criticises the American consumer dream. Biffs character has been enlightened and has broken free of the self-denial and lies Willy imposed on them through his upbringing, seeing what has happened to Willy and not wishing the same fate. Biff sees Theres more of him in that front stoop than in all the sales he ever made and his fondly retrospective attitude in this scene will lead the audience to be more sympathetic and affectionate towards his character. This is because he has acknowledged the death of Willy and realised why. He understands now that he must follow his own dreams not the same dream as everybody else. He can see Willy would have lived a better life if he had done so and wants to no follow him down a similar path. Miller also does this, as he wants the audience to see Biff is a happy person without the money as he has realised the things he wants from life do not involve it. Happy can be seen by the audience as a nai ve character as he has not really changed during the play, despite everything he believes in failing before his very eyes. He still believes Willys failure was misfortune and he wants to show the world he didnt die in vain and he says Im gonna win it for him. The audience will be lead into believing he will fail though and go by the same way Willy did. Miller juxtaposes the brothers attitudes with Biff saying I know who I am kid when Happy questions his loyalty to The Loman Brothers! The dramatic effect of this is to show how the two characters have reacted to Willys death. Happy is still hiding behind lies and following the consumer dream whereas Biff seems to have seen the real picture. Miller shows the audience Biffs maturity and power over Happy in his stage directions. Biff looks on Happy with a hopeless glance which suggests to the audience that Biff maybe right. In this scene, we can see Lindas character, one that never seemed to sway or differ, seem the most confused and lost at the end of the play. All the other characters in the scene seem to have some sort of firm idea of the direction after the death of Willy but Linda does not. Miller here is perhaps showing the audience that Willy was her life and now he is gone she has nothing. The dramatic effect of Lindas confusion and sadness is to gain the sympathy of the audience and create a sense of melancholy. She also seems to not have realised much about Willy, his death and why it came about. After his failure, death was the only answer for Willy as he could never achieve his dreams but Linda fails to see this. She cannot understand why he killed himself and it seems to her like he is just on another trip. Her lack of acceptance is representative of how Linda believed everything Willy said. She cannot understand why nobody came to Willys funeral and she feels she has to say goodbye. Her main speech draws on the sympathy from the audience and casts a sombre mood upon the play. She emphasises her disillusion with Willys death by her repetition of I cant cry. She cannot understand as she has followed what Willy has said and wanted and tied herself to his dreams for so long that she knows nothing without him. The use of flute music plying behind her speech emphasises the sorrow and hammers home the tragedy. Linda also has finally paid the house off but therell be nobody home. Miller is using Lindas confusion to highlight that material possessions do not necessarily mean happiness, contrary to what Willy believed. Linda does not know what to do with her life after Willys death, quite simply as Willy was her life and in his death she has nothing. Miller is using this to illustrate Willys failure to acknowledge the love and acceptance he had in his family, when he was more interested in seeking recognition in the business world. Men Giving Birth? :: Biology Essays Research Papers
Men Giving Birth? A leading British fertility expert, Lord Winston, says it should be possible for a man to carry a baby to term and then deliver it by a Caesarean section. In Winston's view, modern medical technology will soon allow homosexual male couples to bear children, or allow a heterosexual male to carry a child if his wife is unable to for medical reasons. "Male pregnancy would certainly be possible and would be the same as when a woman has an ectopic pregnancy -- outside the uterus -- although to sustain it, you'd have to give the man lots of female hormones," Winston told the Times. He will outline the concept in his new book, The IVF Revolution. IVF stands for in vitro fertilization. Winston acknowledges that there could be a few problems with the technique. Among other things, the man could experience internal bleeding -- and he might grow breasts. "I don't think there would be a rush of people wanting to implement this technology," he said. (1) Presently, researchers are now busy perfecting a reliable birth-control drug for men. A five-year study, conducted by the ANZAC Research Institute in Sydney, involved 55 men using hormonal injections and implants as birth control. None of the men's partners conceived and there were no side effects compared to other trials, which have been terminated due to unforeseen problems. The contraceptive works by inhibiting sperm production through injections of progestin every three months. Since this hormone also reduces the sex drive, testosterone had to be implanted under the men's skin every four months to maintain their libido. After a 12-month period, participants would stop the treatment to recover their fertility. "This is the first time a reversible male contraceptive that will suppress sperm production reliably and reversibly has been fully tested by couples," Professor David Handelsman, the study's director, was quoted by Reuters as saying. Melissa Dear, a spokesperson for the Family Planning Association, told CNN that she thought it was unlikely that the final product would be marketed in the form of an injection. "It's too awkward a method," she said. "This study has brought the reality of the male contraceptive pill one step closer, but we need to look at combining both hormones in a tablet form." She added that although the Family Planning Association welcomed the news, she anticipated that it would be five to 10 years before a male contraceptive was available commercially.

Child Obesity
Nowadays, childhood obesity has become an epidemic in all over the world. This essay will consider the problem of obesity and outlline possible solutions. To begin with, in point of fact the reason of obesity are not difficult to understand. Firstly, people are eating more and more unhealthy food, namely fast-foods which contain a large percentage of calories. It is because children feel junk-foods are more appertizing than fresh foods cooked at home. Moreover, many parents become so busy that they do not have time to cook . Secondly, there are short of space for children to play . In addition, children nowadays have too many exercises to do at home so they so not have much time to play. This leads to watching TV and playing computer game a lot. Thirdly, fast-food industry has developed dramatically in many countries. In fact, there are more and more fast- food joint in everywhere.Furthermore, particular in Western cultures are often very high in fat. Obesity have many bad effects on society . First of all, overweight children can get many serious dieases such as heart disease, diabetes or even cancer. It can also leads to an increase of stress in school for fat children when they become object of cruel jokes, consequently, overweight children are always unconfident in themselves. As we have seen, there are number of ways to reduce obesity. One of the most effective method is that society ,school and family should take responsibility for educating about mental health of healthy life style for children so as to they have knowledge about the risk of obesity. In short, the main causes of childhood obesity is bad diet and less active. This leads to considerable damage about health in the long term. In my view, children should be encouraged to eat healthy foods and do exercise frequently.

Vietnam War vs Iraq War
With a husband in the Army and currently on his third deployment to Iraq, I am often asked how I think this war is different from past wars. In order to answer this question properly, I found that I needed to do a little bit of research and acquaint myself with some war history. As I learned about previous wars that Americans have been involved in, I learned that only two wars have had a great deal of controversy. The Vietnam War and the Iraq War, while almost identical are vastly different in their own right. In this paper, I will discuss the similarities and differences between two of our most recent wars. Even though there is a twenty eight year difference, there are many similarities between the wars in Vietnam and Iraq. Both Vietnam and Iraq are called wars, even though neither had a formal declaration of war. The ââ¬Å"actionsâ⬠claimed legitimacy per a Congressional vote authorizing the Presidents to send troops. The Vietnam War was packaged as a crucial front in the Cold War; and Iraq was packaged as a crucial front in the War on Terrorism. Vietnam is seen as Texan President Lyndon Johnsonââ¬â¢s war, although he saw it as carrying out military commitments made by his predecessors Eisenhower and Kennedy. Iraq is seen as Texan President George W. Bushââ¬â¢s war, although he saw himself fulfilling the stated goal (Iraq Regime Change) of his predecessors George H. W. Bush and Clinton. The excuse for major combat operations in Vietnam was a perceived attack on the Gulf of Tonkin. The excuse for major combat operations in Iraq was a perceived attack on the Persian Gulf. Elected on a promise to end the war in Vietnam, Nixon expanded it into Laos and Cambodia. During the midterm election, Bush learned that the voters wanted to end the War in Iraq, but instead, he sent more troops. President Johnson left Vietnam unresolved for his successor, Nixon, who had no connection to his administration; President Bush left Iraq unresolved for his successor, Obama, who also had no connection to his administration. The escalation into Vietnam and the invasion of Iraq are often seen as consequences because of events that happened in America less than two years earlier; the assassination of JFK and the September 11 attacks. Prior to the Vietnam War, the United States had military advisors in South Vietnam for about twelve years. After the Gulf War, the United States had combat troops in Iraq for about twelve years and kept them close by in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Both Vietnam and Iraq involved the United States accusing a powerful neighbor, Russia, China, and Iran, of aiding its enemies.Vietnam and Iraq were largely supported by the public until the Tet Offensive and Abu Gharib put gruesome images of hard-won victories on Americanââ¬â¢s televisions. Soldiers of both Vietnam and Iraq found themselves being criticized for what had been happening, although they were just following orders given to them by the higher-ups. Opponents of both Vietnam and Iraq found themselves being branded as traitors for simply exercising their right to free speech. With all the similarities of Vietnam and Iraq, there are vast amounts of differences too. When the villain in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, was captured at Saigon, his name was put on the city and it became Ho Chi Minh City in 1975. When Saddam Hussein, the villain in Iraq, was captured, he was executed after having his name removed from just about everything in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. The United States got into Vietnam to keep the south from falling to communist dictators, though in the process they cancelled or rigged democratic elections. The United States went into Iraq with the intentions to stop terrorism, but in the process provided fodder for new terrorist groups. The loss of Vietnam was supposed to cause a ââ¬Å"domino effectâ⬠of nations falling to Communism. The victory in Iraq was supposed to cause something of a reverse domino effect of other Islamic states yearning for democracy. The Vietnam War ended with the unification of a country formerly divided, while the end of the Iraq War brought with it the partitioning of a country formerly unified.American involvement in Vietnam began after the French stopped fighting; while American involvement in Iraq began after the French refused to fight. When the generals told President Johnson that they needed more troops to win in Vietnam, he refused to provide them and moved to end the war. When the generals told President Bush that they needed more troops to win in Iraq, he refused to provide them and moved to start the war. Vietnamââ¬â¢s fighting force was four times the size of Iraqââ¬â¢s.Vietnam had a draft that was eventually abolished, while Iraq had an all-volunteer military that eventually led to talk of reinstating the draft. The War in Vietnam was a long fight to expel an invading army. The War in Iraq was a short fight by an invading army to expel Saddam, followed by a long fight to expel local militias. If a soldier joined the National Guard in the Vietnam era, they would have avoided getting shipped out, but if a soldier joined the National Guard during the Iraq era, they probably would not have avoided being shipped out. Some people say that America gets involved in wars just for the revenue created, while other people say that without unification of the world, there will never be true peace. As a military wife in a time of war, I find myself often torn between my feelings. There is no doubt that given the choice, I would choose to have my husband home and safe, however, without being needed by the Army, my husband probably would not have a job or be able to support our family. As I did research for this paper, I found myself very grateful that I was not a wife during the War in Vietnam. With the lack of communication, ammunition and support from other countries during the Vietnam War, I would most likely be a widow. Being a military wife during the Iraq War is not easy, but there have not been near as many casualties and while my husband still is not entirely safe, I am able to communicate with him almost every day and have no doubt that he is provided with everything that he needs. There are a great number of similarities between the Vietnam War and the Iraq War, but there are also a great number of differences.

History and Invention of Gasoline
History and Invention of Gasoline Gasoline was not invented, it is a natural by-product of the petroleum industry, kerosene being the principal product. Gasoline is produced by distillation, the separating of the volatile, more valuable fractions of crude petroleum. However, what was invented were the numerous processes and agents needed to improve the quality of gasoline making it a better commodity. The Automobile When the history of the automobile was heading in the direction of becoming the number one method of transportation. There was created a need for new fuels. In the ââ¬â¹nineteenth century, coal, gas, camphene, and kerosene made from petroleum were being used as fuels and in lamps. However, automobile engines required fuels that needed petroleum as a raw material. Refineries could not convert crude oil into gasoline fast enough as automobiles were rolling off the ââ¬â¹assembly line. Cracking There was a need for improvement in the refining process for fuels that would prevent engine knocking and increase engine efficiency. Especially for the new high compression automobile engines that were being designed. The processes that were invented to improve the yield of gasoline from crude oil were known as cracking. In petroleum refining, cracking is a process by which heavy hydrocarbon molecules are broken up into lighter molecules by means of heat, pressure, and sometimes catalysts. Thermal Cracking: William Meriam Burton Cracking is the number one process for the commercial production of gasoline. In 1913, thermal cracking was invented by William Meriam Burton, a process that employed heat and high pressures. Catalytic Cracking Eventually, catalytic cracking replaced thermal cracking in gasoline production. Catalytic cracking is the application of catalysts that create chemical reactions, producing more gasoline. The catalytic cracking process was invented by Eugene Houdry in 1937. Additional Processes Other methods used to improve the quality of gasoline and increase its supply including: Polymerization: converting gaseous olefins, such as propylene and butylene, into larger molecules in the gasoline rangeAlkylation: a process combining an olefin and paraffin such as isobutaneIsomerization: the conversion of straight-chain hydrocarbons to branched-chain hydrocarbonsReforming: using either heat or a catalyst to rearrange a molecular structure Timeline of Gasoline and Fuel Improvements 19th-centuryà fuels for the automobile were coal tar distillates and the lighter fractions from the distillation of crude oil.On September 5, 1885, the first gasoline pump was manufactured by Sylvanus Bowser of Fort Wayne, Indiana and delivered to Jake Gumper, also of Fort Wayne. The gasoline pump tank had marble valves and wooden plungers and had a capacity of one barrel. On September 6, 1892, the first gasoline-powered tractor, manufactured by John Froelich of Iowa, was shipped to Langford, South Dakota, where it was employed in threshing for approximately 2 months. It had a vertical single-cylinder gasoline engine mounted on wooden beams and drove a J. I. Case threshing machine. Froelich formed the Waterloo Gasoline Tractor Engine Company, which was later acquired by the John Deere Plow Company. On June 11, 1895, the first U.S. patent for a gasoline-powered automobile was issued toà Charles Duryeaà of Springfield, Massachusetts.By the earlyà 20th century, the oil companies w ere producing gasoline as a simple distillate from petroleum. During the 1910s, laws prohibited the storage of gasoline on residential properties. On January 7, 1913, William Meriam Burton received a patent for his cracking process to convert oil to gasoline. On January 1, 1918, the first U.S. gasoline pipeline began transporting gasoline through aà three-inchà pipe over 40 miles from Salt Creek to Casper, Wyoming.Charles Ketteringà modified an internal combustion engine to run on kerosene. However,à kerosene-fueledà engine knocked and would crack the cylinder head and pistons.Thomas Midgley Jr.à discovered that the cause of the knocking was from the kerosene droplets vaporizing on combustion. Anti-knock agents were researched by Midgley, culminating in tetraethyl lead being added to fuel.On February 2, 1923, for the first time in U.S. history ethyl gasoline was marketed. This took place in Dayton, Ohio.In 1923, Almer McDuffie McAfee developed the petroleum industrys first commercially viable catalytic cracking process, a method that could double or even triple the gasoline yielded from crude oilà by then-standardà distillation methods. By the mid-1920s, gasolineà wasà 40 to 60 Octane.By the 1930s, the petroleum industry stopped using kerosene.Eugene Houdry invented the catalytic cracking of low-grade fuel into high test gasoline in 1937.During the 1950s, the increase of the compression ratio and higher octane fuels occurred. Lead levels increased and new refining processes (hydrocracking) began. In 1960, Charles Plank and Edward Rosinski patented (U.S. #3,140,249) the first zeolite catalyst commercially useful in the petroleum industry for catalytic cracking of petroleum into lighter products such as gasoline. In the 1970s, unleaded fuels were introduced. From 1970 until 1990 lead was phased out.In 1990, the Clean Air Act created major changes on gasoline, rightfully intended to eliminate pollution.

Misplaced Modifiers Mix Meanings
Misplaced Modifiers Mix Meanings Misplaced Modifiers Mix Meanings Misplaced Modifiers Mix Meanings By Mark Nichol Scrambled sentence structure can lead to humorous or at least head-shaking imagery that readers will stumble on. Be alert in your writing for infelicitous misplacement of meaning: 1. ââ¬Å"Kangaroo babies are the size of a lima bean at birth.â⬠But weââ¬â¢re not told how big a lima bean is at birth. Oh perhaps it means this: ââ¬Å"At birth, kangaroo babies are the size of a lima bean.â⬠2. ââ¬Å"A famous athlete in the ancient Olympics named Milo of Kroton could break a string tied around his head with his bulging forehead veins.â⬠OK, wait, let me get this straight: Milo of Kroton tied a string around his head with his bulging forehead veins? Why not just tie the string to, um, the string?
